Dealerplate is a regional vehicle-lettering toolkit for believable North American world-building.

A real license plate may provide only six or seven characters, which is enough until a production needs a different word, a fictional registration or matching lettering elsewhere in the scene. Dealerplate expands the partial alphabets of embossed U.S. and Canadian plates into usable typefaces, giving prop designers, art departments and environment artists complete regional systems instead of forcing them to improvise missing letters from photographs.

Film and television production is the most direct use. A New York police procedural, a California road scene, an Ontario vehicle prop or a Quebec period reconstruction can use lettering that belongs to the setting rather than one generic license-plate style. Dealerplate can handle hero plates and background vehicles, but also evidence photographs, parking permits, impound graphics, registration props and dealership inserts created for the fictional world.

Open-world and driving games face the same problem at much greater scale. Crime games, trucking simulators, racing titles and urban simulations may contain hundreds of vehicles spread across different regions or fictional jurisdictions. Dealerplate’s 17 styles let environment artists give those places distinct registration systems while retaining the proportions and construction of embossed North American plates. A setting inspired by California can feel different from one drawing on New York, Florida, Ontario or Quebec without inventing every alphabet from scratch.

Virtual production and digital set extensions make the same regional specificity useful even when no physical prop exists. CG traffic, LED-stage streets, background vehicles and period reconstructions still need registration graphics that belong to the right place and era. True-crime productions can use the styles for reconstructed vehicle identifiers, surveillance graphics and evidence boards, while automotive museums, classic-car auctions and heritage programs can apply them to registration-history displays, provenance graphics and regional motoring exhibits.

Dealerplate includes styles based on California, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Missouri, Washington, North Carolina, Virginia, Quebec and Ontario. The point is not simply to reproduce a plate rectangle. It provides enough regional vocabulary to make vehicles, documents and fictional places feel as though they came from somewhere specific.
